Types of Massage

Relaxation Massage: Relaxation massage utilizes a smooth, fluid approach, through which the muscles are kneaded with firm but gentle pressure. It is helpful in increasing circulation and promoting a relaxed sense of well-being.

Deep Tissue Massage: Deep tissue massage uses slow strokes and deep pressure to lengthen the tense muscles. This type of massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue and usually concentrates on areas of tension and pain. It is commonly used to release chronic muscle tension and may help break up adhesions.

Sports Massage: Sports massage employs a combination of different massage techniques that are customized to the needs of the athlete. This therapy focuses on the muscles relevant to the particular athletic activity of the athlete and is believed to improve circulation and increase muscle power and flexibility, which in turn decreases the risk of injury and enhances athletic performance.

Myofascial Massage Therapy: Myofascial massage therapy is used to improve one’s structural balance, body alignment and overall body awareness. This form of treatment focuses on the fascia (the web of connective tissues in the body) and utilizes slow and focused movements. Treatments are usually given in a series of sessions focusing on specific problem areas as well as incorporating the full body.
